Roofs Built for Sound Wind and Bay Ice
Architectural asphalt, red cedar, standing seam metal and low-slope rubber roofs, replaced and repaired by an Osterville crew that has roofed Cape houses through twenty winters.
Who are the roofers on Cape Cod?
Coast Carpentry Home Group is a Cape Cod roofing contractor based at 14 Parker Rd in Osterville. We replace and repair roofs in all fifteen Barnstable County towns: architectural asphalt shingles, red cedar, standing seam metal and rubber membrane for low-slope sections. Our own crews tear off, repair the deck, install ice and water shield where the Cape needs it, and finish most residential roofs in one to three days.
Every roof type you will find on a Cape house.
Asphalt is most of the work. Cedar, metal and rubber are the rest, and we install all four with our own crews.
Asphalt shingle roof replacement
Architectural shingles rated for high wind, nailed to the manufacturer's coastal pattern, over a full ice and water shield at eaves, valleys and penetrations. One to three days on most homes.
Roof repair and leak diagnosis
Wind-lifted shingles, failed pipe boots, chimney flashing and ice dam damage. We find the actual entry point, which is rarely where the stain shows up inside.
Red cedar roofs
The traditional Cape roof, installed on breathable underlayment so the shingles dry from both sides. The right choice for many 6A antiques and shingle-style houses.
Standing seam metal roofs
Aluminum or coated steel panels with clips spaced for Cape wind, snow guards above entries and flashing details that keep salt air out of the seams.
Flat and rubber roofing
Low-slope porches, dormers and additions get a membrane roof, not shingles. We install modified bitumen and EPDM with proper drainage and edge metal.
Skylights, gutters and ventilation
A reroof is the time to replace a fogged skylight, add ridge and soffit ventilation that stops ice dams, and hang new aluminum gutters.

Two coasts, two kinds of damage. A Cape roof has to handle both.
The south side of the Cape faces Nantucket Sound and gets the wind. Southwest gales in summer, southeast in a nor'easter, and the gusts that peel the first course of shingles off a roof that was nailed to a national standard instead of a coastal one. We nail to the manufacturer's high-wind pattern on every roof, seal the starter course and use ring-shank fasteners where the deck needs them.
The north side faces Cape Cod Bay and gets the ice. Bay-side houses in Sandwich, Barnstable Village, Yarmouth Port, Dennis and Brewster see more snow and more freeze-thaw, and ice dams form wherever warm attic air meets a cold eave. Our fix is a full ice and water membrane at the eaves plus real ventilation, not a heat cable.
Underneath both is the deck. Twenty years of salt air finds the nails, and a roof that leaked for a season has usually rotted a patch of sheathing. We replace what we find during tear-off and tell you about it the same day, with photos, so there are no surprises on the final invoice. On Route 6A homes in the Old King's Highway district, a change in roof material or color is reviewed by the district committee, and we handle that filing.

Roofing contractor in every Cape town.
Based in Osterville, on the roof in all fifteen towns. Here is what the location does to the job.
Upper Cape
Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth and Mashpee. Falmouth and Bourne take Buzzards Bay weather head on. Sandwich splits between 6A antiques on the bay and newer neighborhoods inland.

Barnstable's seven villages, Yarmouth and Dennis. Most of our roofs are here. Hyannis, Centerville, Osterville and Cotuit on the Sound side; Barnstable Village, Yarmouth Port and Dennis Village on the bay.

Harwich, Brewster, Chatham and Orleans. Chatham's exposure to the open Atlantic makes it the hardest roofing environment on the Cape. Brewster and Orleans carry the 6A review.
Outer Cape
Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. Wind from both shores and a lot of cedar and low-slope roofs on cottages. We stage materials carefully because of Route 6 and the summer season.
Serving Cape Cod only. We do not roof on Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard or off-Cape. Shop and office: 14 Parker Rd, Osterville, MA 02655.
From the first call to the last nail picked up.
Roof inspection
We get on the roof and in the attic, photograph what we find and tell you repair or replace with the reasons.
Written quote
Material options, ventilation and skylight add-ons, and a scope that spells out deck repair allowances.
Permit and scheduling
Building permit filed. We pick a weather window; roofs are weather-dependent work and we do not open a roof we cannot close.
Tear-off and install
Old roof off, deck repaired, membrane and underlayment down, new roof on. Most homes take one to three days.
Clean-up and inspection
Magnetic nail sweep, gutters cleared, final inspection and the warranty paperwork handed over.
